ASML, the world's largest supplier of machines for the production of integrated circuits, currently employs 43.5 thousand. people all over the world. The management explains the cuts as the need for reorganization to simplify processes and management structure, and thus allow engineers to focus on technology development and accelerate innovation. The company forecasts that in 2026 its revenues will increase to EUR 34-39 billion.
AI drives profits
ASML's performance is driven by growing demand for machinery used in semiconductor production, which is directly related to the boom in artificial intelligence.
The value of orders in the fourth quarter of 2025 exceeded EUR 13 billion, which is almost twice the result from the same period a year earlier. Throughout last year, the order portfolio reached a record EUR 28 billion. However, the company emphasizes that the execution of orders takes from a year to a year and a half, which is why new contracts do not immediately translate into revenues.

Layoffs at the giant. Trade unions are protesting
The decision to layoffs was criticized by trade unions. CNV's headquarters demands talks on the protection package, emphasizing the difficulty of reconciling job cuts with the company's ambitious development plans. The De Unie union described ASML's decision as “bitter”, noting the company's record financial results.
ASML plays a key role in the global semiconductor production chain – without its lithography facilities, major chipmakers such as TSMC, Intel and Samsung would not be able to produce modern chips. The growing demand for these solutions is driven by the development of artificial intelligence and data centers.
The Dutch company remains the largest manufacturer of lithography machines in the world and at the same time the largest European company in terms of market value.
