Adriana Georgescu, PNL Sector 1 member, was detained on Wednesday night by anti-corruption prosecutors, together with a man who claimed to be a SIE general, both being accused of influence peddling.

The lawyer and fake SIE general, Gheorghe Iscru, is to be taken to the Bucharest Court of Appeal on Thursday, with a proposal for preventive arrest, writes Agerpres.

The two were caught red-handed by prosecutors on Wednesday while receiving 60,000 euros, out of a total amount of 500,000 euros they claimed from a businessman from Constanța.

In exchange for the money, they would have promised interventions in justice or at various authorities, including institutions subordinate to the Government or the Presidential Administration.

The ambulance, called to DNA

The two were picked up and taken to hearings. At one point, an ambulance was called to the DNA headquarters, after the lawyer was hurt. Currently, her health is good.

According to judicial sources cited by Agerpres, Adriana Georgescu would have asked for half a million euros from the businessman Jean-Paul Tucan, claiming that she can intervene to help him solve a criminal case.

He was sent to court in August 2025 for fraud with European funds. The case is pending before the Bucharest Court, but it has not passed the preliminary chamber.

PNL Sector 1 announced on Wednesday that Adriana Georgescu will be suspended as a member of the National Liberal Party as soon as there is an official statement from the National Anticorruption Directorate.

The liberal branch also specified that Adriana Georgescu is not an advisor of PNL Sector 1, is not the leader of the Women's Organization of PNL Sector 1 and does not hold any management or representation position within the branch, and “the mention of such positions in the articles published in the press is erroneous and does not reflect the objective reality”.

Former legal director at CFR SA

Lawyer Adriana Georgescu held several management positions within the Ministry of Transport, according to Club Feroviar.

He held the position of legal director at CNADNR, now CNAIR, during 2007-2008. Between June and September 2014, he was the personal adviser of Minister Ioan Rus (PSD).

Also, in November 2014, she was appointed legal director of CFR SA.
