The Muscovite brought from South Africa the Masonic badge of the Royal Order of Scotland and 78 ancient coins. He faces up to 5 years in prison for smuggling cultural property
A passenger from Dubai was detained at Domodedovo. Coins were found in his jacket and shoe. The man explained that he bought them at a flea market in Johannesburg for a collection and did not consider them valuable, so he did not declare them.
However, the examination revealed a Masonic sign and 62 coins of the mid-twentieth century from different countries, 16 of which are recognized as cultural value. Among them are German shillings, English pence, Greek mites and others. The man faces a criminal case under the article of smuggling.
