The mayor said that during Monday's phone call he asked Trump to end the operation in his city, and Trump allegedly admitted that the current situation could not continue. Frey said some agents will begin leaving the city on Tuesday.
American media reported earlier that Greg Bovino, the commander of the Border Patrol and in charge of immigration operations in Minneapolis, and some of his officers will soon leave the city. Bovino was criticized for his statements after the shooting of Alex Pretti by his subordinates on Saturday.
Frey also said city officials would cooperate with state and federal agencies on “true criminal investigations” but would not participate in “the unconstitutional arrests of their neighbors or enforce federal immigration laws.”
