Putin sees the “light at the end of the tunnel” in Russia's relationships with the US. “Trump is a good guarantee”

Russian President Vladimir Putin said on Friday that there is “Luminiţa at the end of the tunnel” in relations between Russia and the US and that the two countries are discussing common projects in Arctica and Alaska, informs Reuters.

Answer questions during a visit to a nuclear research center, Putin expressed his belief that US President Donald Trump will help restore relationships, lately at the lowest level.

“With the arrival of President Trump, I think finally the light at the end of the tunnel. And now I have had a very good, significant and sincere meeting in Alaska”said Putin, referring to the summit last week, according to Agerpres.

“The following steps now depend on the leadership of the United States, but I am confident that the leadership traits of the current president, President Trump, are a good guarantee that relationships will be restored”added the tenant of Kremlin.

President Putin's comments signal to Russia's optimism that he can remedy the US relations and conclude commercial agreements, despite the lack of clear progress in the direction of the conflict in Ukraine, at his August 15 with Trump, Reuters comments.

Putin did not provide details about a possible US-Russian cooperation in the Arctic, but said that in the region there are “huge, huge” mineral reserves and mentioned that Novatek, the Russian liquefied natural gas company, is already operating there.

“We discuss, by the way, with American partners about the possibility of collaborating in this area. And not only in our Arctic area, but also in Alaska. And, at the same time, the technologies we hold, today no one except us. And this is of interest to our partners, including those in the United States. ” Putin said.

Both Russia and the United States have stated that they are learning huge economic opportunities if they can normalize their relationships after the links have declined to a minimum cold war due to the Ukraine.
