Early elections in Serbia. The president announced the date


Vucic admitted in an interview with Blic television that it is “realistic” to expect elections between October and December and did not rule out the possibility of holding parliamentary and presidential elections at the same time.

He also stated that he would invite partners from the ruling coalition, as well as the opposition, to discuss all important issues, because – as he said – problems “in normal countries” are solved through dialogue.

The demand for early elections has been raised by students protesting in Serbia since May, when it joined earlier demands in response to the tragedy at the Novi Sad railway station on November 1, 2024. As a result of the collapse of part of the building's roof, 16 people died there. Students and citizens supporting them, whose mass protests have been ongoing in the country since the end of 2024, accuse the authorities of corruption and negligence that allegedly led to the accident.

At the end of December, students announced they had collected almost 400,000. signatures for an appeal to call early elections.
