The most important sports newspaper in Italy, huge words after the death of Mircea Lucescu: The football visionary has died

Mircea Lucescu died on Tuesday evening, at the age of 80. Italy's most important sports newspaper, Gazzetta dello Sport, opens its website with this sad news and pays tribute to the man who coached Pisa, Inter and Brescia.
“Paternal, clever, revolutionary, he was football's Nikola Tesla. He won 36 trophies at the helm of 8 teams, including UEFA with Shakhtar, launched hundreds of high-level players and invented match analysis,” writes Gazzetta describing him as football's visionary.
The Italian publication continues its tribute to the Romanian coach, reviewing the history written by him at Shakhtior Donetsk, in Turkey, with Galatasaray and Beşiktaş, as well as the time he spent in Italy.
Mircea Luceascu died on Tuesday, April 7, 2026, at 8:30 p.m., hospital representatives announced in a press release, broadcast during the evening.
