Disaster in Sicily: a city is collapsing before people's eyes. 1,500 people were evacuated

The landslide in Niscemi covers a distance of about four kilometers and has so far destroyed an entire neighborhood. The earth continues to move, and the danger of the phenomenon expanding remains high. The police are present on the streets to maintain order, in the context of the growing discontent of the residents.
Although the mayor appealed on social media for people to stay indoors, fear and desperation led many to take to the streets, worried that more landslides could occur at any moment.

Locals claim that the authorities did not carry out checks and did not take preventive measures, although the area was known to be vulnerable. Their dissatisfaction led to spontaneous protests, amid the evacuations and the losses suffered, according to the Italian media.
The president of the region, on the spot
This morning, the president of the region arrived in the affected area to assess the situation. Official data shows that 1,500 people have been evacuated so far. The mayor of the most seriously affected locality stated that the situation continues to worsen, due to other landslides in the area.

For safety reasons, schools were closed and several access roads were blocked. The authorities are looking into the possibility of building an alternative road to avoid the complete isolation of the city.
The Italian government has already declared a state of national emergency, in the context of the cyclone that has affected Italy in recent days. To support the disaster areas, the authorities have allocated a fund of 100 million euros.
