The young man who killed and set fire to his mother, a cardiologist, refuses to teach in France. “He has family members in Romania and wants to be close to them”

The Cluj court decided a new postponement in the case of the 23-year-old Romanian, Andrei Boilă, accused of killing and setting fire to his mother, a cardiologist, in France. The judges approved his lawyer's request that he also be represented by a lawyer from France, while delaying a decision on extradition.

The trial was rescheduled for February 5.

“The court approved our request to hire a lawyer in France, who is one of the best in cases in this field, and we will start working together as soon as possible. This lawyer will handle the substantive case in France. My client does not want to be handed over to the French authorities, because he has family members in Romania and wants to be close to them, but he understands that his legal situation in France needs to be clarified. My client will probably be extradited to France eventually, but he wants his rights in Romania to be respected”said lawyer Dan Boloș, according to cluj24.

He stated that the French lawyer will not come to Romania, but will represent Boilă only in France.

On Monday, January 26, Andrei Boilă was brought before the court again, where he refused to surrender to the French authorities. The prosecutor asked for explanations for the refusal, while his lawyer invoked the right to double representation and requested guarantees regarding the eventual transfer to Romania, in the event of a conviction in France.

At the same time, the lawyer asked the court to send an address to the French authorities to find out the penitentiary where he would be incarcerated and the conditions of detention.

The Cluj Court of Appeal will also extend Andrei Boilă's provisional 15-day arrest warrant, which expires on January 29.

The horrible crime took place at the end of October 2025, and since then Andrei Boilă has been wanted by the French authorities, who consider him the main suspect for the murder of his mother.

Simona Boilă, his mother, was a cardiologist in Molsheim and a graduate of the University of Medicine and Pharmacy (UMF) Cluj-Napoca.

The young man was caught on January 14, 2026 by the Cluj police at the Iulius Mall in Cluj-Napoca, and a day later he was provisionally arrested for 15 days by the Cluj Court of Appeal.
