The incident happened in a tobogganing area in Bârlălești, Epureni commune, Vaslui county, where two teenagers, aged 14 and 17, suffered second and third degree burns on approximately 10% of their body surface, and were rushed to the hospital.
According to the information provided by the authorities, the two were on a hill frequently used for sledding, where, at one point, several tires were allegedly lit. Later, the teenagers accidentally entered the burning tires with their sled, suffering serious burns, notes Agerpres.
“The 17-year-old child was taken by a crew of the County Ambulance Service, with burns on his face and an upper limb. The second child was transported to the Bârlad Hospital by his parents. The children suffered burns while they were on the sled, where it seems that they set fire to some tires, accidentally entering them with the sled”, declared, on Sunday, the prefect of Vaslui county, Eduard Popica,
After the initial medical evaluation, the health staff decided to transfer the 17-year-old teenager to the Emergency Clinical Hospital for Children “Grigore Alexandrescu” in Bucharest, where he received specialized care, and the 14-year-old boy was transferred to the Emergency Clinical Hospital for Children “Sf. Maria” in Iasi, for further investigations.
According to some sources, the two teenagers had “set the scene” by setting the tires on fire in order to make a video to share on social networks.
The incident brings back to attention an increasingly present phenomenon among teenagers, who, out of the desire for online visibility and virtual appreciation, often end up putting their lives in danger.
