The Hennepin County Prosecutor's Office and the Minnesota Bureau of Investigation stressed that those charged in the fatal shooting of 37-year-old Alex Pretti and “individuals acting at their direction and with their authority left the scene of the shooting, preventing state authorities from conducting an inspection.”

CNN, which reported this news, recalled that earlier lawsuits had been filed, among others, against the Department of Homeland Security (DHS), Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), Customs and Border Protection (CBP), and U.S. Attorney General Pam Bondi. Hennepin County Prosecutor Mary Moriarty said her office “has jurisdiction to investigate this case for potential criminal conduct by the federal agents involved” and said she would make every effort to do so. She also emphasized that the filed lawsuit “is just one of many actions taken by the office to ensure a thorough and transparent investigation at the state level.”

According to a news release from the Minnesota Bureau of Investigation (BCA), its investigative unit was not allowed by DHS officers to the scene of the shooting even though it had a search warrant.
