The file of the network of fake Romanian identity documents is expanding. 73 more home searches in Botoșani county

In Botoșani county, 73 house searches were carried out as part of an operation to destroy a network that provided fake Romanian identity documents for people from the Republic of Moldova, Ukraine and Russia. The action was coordinated by the Directorate for the Prevention and Combating of Illegal Migration and Cross-Border Criminality, together with the territorial structures in Iasi and Sighetu Marmatiei.

The operation takes place in continuation of the operative activities carried out to destroy a network that provided Romanian identity documents inconsistent with reality for people from the Republic of Moldova, Ukraine and the Russian Federation.

Simultaneously with the searches, within the same county, the border police are carrying out an action in which 104 addresses are checked where citizens originally from the Republic of Moldova, Ukraine and the Russian Federation are domiciled, in order to establish the situations in which the persons in question do not actually live at the declared addresses, as well as verifying the correctness of the data communicated to the competent authorities.

“In the same case, on 20.11.2024, 90 home search warrants were executed at the headquarters of some public institutions and the residences of individuals in the counties of Botoşani, Suceava and the city of Bucharest, and following the administration of the evidence, it was ordered to carry out further criminal prosecution against 94 suspects under the aspect of committing the crimes of bribery and computer forgery by public officials from Botoşani county, as well as regarding the commission of bribery, influence peddling, influence buying, forgery in official documents, use of forgery and forgery in documents under private signature addresses that are the subject of search warrants the residences of some citizens from the ex-Soviet space were fictitiously established by means of false/falsified rental contracts. These contracts were drawn up with the support of intermediaries, natural persons, apparently being concluded between them and a legal entity with its registered office in Botoşani county, thus allowing the company's representatives to take various citizens into the space in their own name without the consent of the owners“, according to the Prosecutor's Office attached to the High Court of Cassation and Justice.

In order to obtain identity cards issued by the Romanian authorities, the beneficiaries also used false/falsified citizenship certificates supposed to be issued by Romanian consulates in different countries.
