“The Russian side will take the necessary funds to protect interests”

On July 7, the Norway government announced that it would join the EU's actions and place both companies on the domestic sanction list, citing concerns about the espionage and risk of sabotage.
In practice, this move annulled the agreement of 1976 and resulted in the withdrawal of ships of these companies from Norwegian waters, which met with rapid condemnation of Moscow, which considered them “politically motivated”.
In Tuesday's statement, the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs stated that Norway's decision was a “gross violation of” a long -term agreement on fisheries. Moscow accused Oslo of undermining what she described as “a long -term effective system” of managing common resources in the Barents Sea and the Norwegian Sea.
The Kremlin warned that Norway's actions may threaten wider cooperation in the field of fisheries and sustainable operation of sea resources in the North Atlantic.
“If Oslo is not ready to return to fulfilling the conditions set out in the 1976 agreement, the Russian side will take the necessary means to protect the interests of domestic fisheries,” said the ministry.
The Norwegian Ministry of Foreign Affairs told Politico that on Tuesday, July 29, a meeting was held between the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Oslo embassy in Moscow.
– the Russian side expressed dissatisfaction with the decision of Norway to place Russian enterprises Nordebo JSC and Murman Seafood on the list [sankcji] – said the Norwegian spokesman.
– We want to continue cooperation in the field of fishing in the Barents Sea. At the same time, we are solidarized with our allies in Europe in response to the aggressive war of Russia against Ukraine and its behavior towards NATO countries. The rules applicable on Norwegian ports are determined by the Norwegian authorities – we read in a statement of Norway, which Politico reached.
