Rocadă Mircea Lucescu – Gică Hagi at the Romanian national team: “Things are 99% nailed down”

Mircea Lucescu has repeatedly stated that he will retire from the national team at any time, if Gică Hagi comes in his place. The variant is intensively circulated in the Romanian press, especially since the manager of Farului has no commitment at the moment, leaving the technical bench of Constanta in the hands of Ianis Zicu.

Journalist Decebal Rădulescu stated at DigiSport that he has confirmed information from several sources, namely that FRF has colluded with Gică Hagi to take over the first national team. “The next selector of the Romanian national team will be Gică Hagi. Things are 99% nailed down. This thing will happen after Mircea Lucescu finishes his mandate. There is also a rumor that he could take over the national team even before March, but I have no information here. Things are kind of settled in the leadership of the Federation, Hagi will be the future selector”Decebal Rădulescu said, sure of himself.

The end of March, hot for Romania

For the Romanian national team, the duel with Turkey follows on March 26, a match counting for the semi-finals of the World Cup bracket, which will take place in Istanbul. If the “tricolors” prevail, they will face the winner of the match Slovakia – Kosovo, in the final (March 31), also away. The winner of these playoffs will go to the final tournament in the USA, Canada and Mexico.

Gică Hagi was installed at the helm of the Romanian national team in 2001, immediately after he retired from football. He recorded a record of one win, two draws and one defeat and lost qualification for the 2002 World Championship to Osterc and Rudonja's Slovenia.
