Deveselu, in the Kremlin viewfinder. What hides Russia's fear of the missile shield in Romania

Vladimir Putin has repeatedly criticized the shield from Deveselu and the entire defensive system of NATO. The Russians claim that, in fact, the defensive weapons of the Allies can be easily transformed into defensive weapons and went even further and said that all these are a target for Russia. The “truth” appeals to two well -known generals to determine to what extent these weapons could even threaten Russia and why this country poses in the victim.

The Russian Federation has not lost any opportunity to complain that NATO is coming step by step to its borders and thus would endanger its security. Moscow is victimized and sees a gigantic conspiracy around it, and NATO expansion is perceived as a chain that slows down around Russia.

Why is it a little afraid of the Deveselu shield

Putin and Russian officials have also speculated in this regard that NATO states have decided to strengthen their defense. Thus, the Kremlin leader claimed that NATO puts offensive weapons on the borders of Russia, which would prove, the Russians, the aggressive intentions of the so-called collective West.

Targeted are primarily the missile shield from Deveselu, Romania, but also the similar shield in Poland, from Redzikowo. Both bases, the one from Deveselu and Redzikowo are part of the NATO's missile defense system, based on the Aegis Ashore system. The Aegis Ashore system was built even for the interception of the ballistic missiles drawn from Iran.

This did not stop at Putin to go to the threats, saying Russia would be targeted by these weapons. Moreover, Romania was mentioned not once in Vladimir Putin's speeches. The head of the Russian state believes that the shield, which was built to defend the Eastern NATO flank, Western Europe and the US from Iran's missiles, would actually be an offensive weapon aimed at Moscow.

At the same time, Poland and the Baltic countries decided to build a defensive system on their border with the Russian and Belarus Federation. And not just that. Due to the aggressive policy of the Russian Federation, five NATO member states on the East Flank will install lethal weapons systems to be insured, in the event of a Russian attack, Bild notes.

Among the weapons that will be based to discourage a potential Russian attack, Finland, Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania and Poland are planning to mine the entire eastern border with Russia. This is a 3,460 -kilometer NATO border with Russia and Belarus, divided by the 5 allied states.

Even though the ground mines have been previously forbidden, the five states decided to officially notify the UN, after which they will have permission to again get these mines. Obviously, Russia criticized this decision and did not lose the opportunity to pose once more in the victim.

What role do NATO weapons play

He believes that the Russian Federation is not based on any serious evidence when it claims that it is taken by NATO.

Referring to the shield from Deveselu, General Dan Grecu explains the purpose for which the United States brought this system to Romania.

“From the beginning this system, this shield from Deveselu was designed to protect South-East Europe and Southeast Flank of NATO against unpredictable attacks from third parties. In particular Iran was visualized in this direction”Says General Grecu.

Putin's tactic

The fact that the Russian Federation is constantly looking for reasons for quarrel and sees only conspiracies against it has a well -founded reason. In this way, Putin and those close to him can justify the population of the Russian Federation why they spend exorbitant amounts for war instead of using the money for development and improving people's lives.

“The Russian rhetoric continues to use this example to justify its actions. And not only justifies them, but you have seen that in the negotiations, that is, the pseudo-traits of peace with Ukraine, it is not necessarily addressed to Ukraine, but it is generally addressed to the West, the Global West and NATO in particular, in the sense that it does not accept a military presence. The equation that the Russian Federation puts on the wallpaper, and to which the United States has partially responded, and European states have not yet answered. “adds General Grecu.

In fact, many Russian analysts and not only compare NATO's extension and the emergence of weapons such as the Deveselu shield with the Cuban missile crisis of 1962. Then the United States and the former Soviet Union were on the verge of war, after the Americans discovered that Moscow had moved nuclear weapons to Cuba.

“From my point of view, it is not possible to compare in any way the situation now with the one of 1962. Because then there were rockets, including nuclear, which were put in the vicinity of the United States, respectively in Cuba. Of course, they can be done, common points can be found from the perspective of the Russian Federation. Use this situation, so to speak, for the internal public.says General Grecu.

In reality, says the general, not only the North Atlantic Alliance was not hostile to the Russian Federation, but he even sought to cooperate with Moscow and behaved flawlessly.

“On the contrary, NATO had an opening policy towards Russia, proof that the NATO-Russia Council was set up on security and defense issues. The Council's works were suspended, but not because of NATO, but because of the aggressive actions of the Russian Federation, initially in Georgia, and later in Crimea. As long as it is seen that the Russian Federation has aggressive intentions ”, says General Grecu.

For his part, General Virgil Bălăceanu says that the shield from Deveselu appeared from the need to defend NATO and the US from a possible attack from the Middle East.

“The shield really does not represent any danger to Russia, as well as the other weapons of the Allies. The shield from Deveselu will surely be integrated into the system that Trump wants for the defense of North America, namely Golden Dome. The Deveselu shield, the similar system in Poland, but also the Radar in Turkey are for the first and forerunner.” explains General Bălăceanu.

By the fact that Romania hosts this shield from Deveselu, its geostrategic importance is much increased, says the general.

“From here and a geostrategic importance of Romania in relation to the United States. And it is a geostrategic importance that we can capitalize on, this as we have more details on the development of the Golden Dome system. But until the development of the Golden Dome system, the current system of anti -aircraft defense is based on the Deveselu shield.”, Points General Bălăceanu.

He also reminds that the Russians see weapons everywhere who have them in the viewfinder, although the reality is quite different.
