PHOTO Trump presented his real estate project for the “New Gaza” in Davos: “It will be beautiful, I will be very successful”

US President Donald Trump unveiled his plan for a “New Gaza” on Thursday, which would transform the devastated Palestinian territory into a luxury seaside skyscraper complex, a project that could be completed within three years, Agerpres reported.

“I will be very successful in Gaza, it will be beautiful,” the US leader said as he unveiled his controversial “Peace Council” in Davos, originally created to end the conflict between Hamas and Israel.

“I'm a real estate developer at heart (…) and I said, look at this beachfront lot, look at this gorgeous piece of land, what could be here for so many people,” Trump said on the sidelines of the World Economic Forum in the Swiss ski resort.

His son-in-law Jared Kushner, who has no official position but acts, among other things, as an emissary for the conflict in Gaza, assessed for his part that this “masterpiece project” is destined for a “flashy success”.

Unveiling a sketch of dozens of tower blocks of terraced apartments overlooking a shaded alley, he promised that this landscape would replace the ruins left by Israel's war on the Gaza Strip after the Palestinian Islamist movement Hamas's bloody attack on its territory on October 7, 2023.

“In the Middle East they build cities like this, for two or three million people, they do it in three years,” he said. “It's doable in three years if we want it to be.”

Kushner also estimated that $25 billion in investment would be needed to rebuild infrastructure and public services in the Palestinian territory.

In 10 years, Gaza's GDP would reach $10 billion and the average household income would reach $13,000, thanks to “100 percent employment and opportunities for all,” he predicted.

According to Kushner, already the “National Committee for the Administration of Gaza”, intended to operate under the auspices of Donald Trump's Peace Council, has received a proposal from the Israeli real estate developer Yakir Gabay.

He “volunteered not for profit, but truly following his heart,” Jared Kushner said. “So for the next 100 days, we will continue unabated to ensure that this happens,” he added.

“Fantastic Investment Opportunities”

Trump's son-in-law also predicted that the complete disarmament of Hamas, in accordance with the ceasefire agreement reached in October, would convince investors and donors.

“There will be fantastic investment opportunities,” Kushner concluded.

According to Reuters, images presented by Jared Kushner painted a Mediterranean coastline lined with gleaming towers, similar to views of Dubai or Singapore, with areas set aside for residential development, data centers and industrial parks, suggesting that redevelopment would begin in Rafah in the south, an area under full Israeli military control.

But the presentation did not address key issues such as property rights or compensation for Palestinians who lost their homes, businesses and livelihoods during the war.

Kushner also did not specify who would finance the redevelopment, which would first require the removal of some 68 million tons of rubble and debris from the war.

In the coming weeks there will be a conference in Washington, “where we will announce a lot of contributions that will be made (…) from the private sector,” he said, without giving details.

The images presented Thursday were nearly identical to those “leaked” to the Wall Street Journal in December; the newspaper then reported that the US offered to “support” 20% of the redevelopment project, without going into details, Reuters also noted.
