On Tuesday afternoon, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs provided the Chancellery of the President with a response to the request for an opinion on the invitation of President Karol Nawrocki to join the Peace Council, Maciej Wewiór, spokesman for the Ministry of Diplomacy, said on Wednesday.

Marcin Przydacz, head of the Presidential Office of International Policy, announced on Monday that President Nawrocki received an invitation from US President Donald Trump to join the Peace Council he is establishing.. He noted that he had also asked the Ministry of Foreign Affairs for an opinion.
On Wednesday, the spokesman of the Ministry of Diplomacy announced in a post on the X platform that the Ministry of Foreign Affairs on Tuesday at 16.56 provided the presidential office with a response to a request for an opinion on this matter. He added that in accordance with the Act on International Agreements, signing such an agreement requires “the consent of the Council of Ministers in the form of a resolution”.
The spokesman assured that the Ministry of Foreign Affairs “continuously remains at the President's disposal.”
On Tuesday, Przydacz announced that President Nawrocki talked by phone with Prime Minister Donald Tusk regarding the invitation to the Peace Council. Government spokesman Adam Szłapka also said on Tuesday that the prime minister had talked to the president and that “they are in contact.” Szłapka also emphasized that the regulations regarding Poland's accession to international organizations are clear. – The Council of Ministers, possible signing, then the ratification procedure, but there is no such decision yet – he added then.
Last Thursday, Trump announced the formation of the Peace Council. Initially, it was presented as a body supervising the interim authorities in the Gaza Strip. Draft documents published in the press indicate that it is to be a new international organization dealing with, among others, resolving conflicts around the world. Trump is to be its president for life with very broad power, the right to elect members and the management board, and the right to veto.
Peace Council member states are to be elected by Trump to three-year terms unless they pay more than $1 billion for permanent membership.
A representative of the US administration said on Wednesday that over 30 heads of state have so far accepted the invitation. The signing of the founding document of the Peace Council is to take place on Thursday in Davos, Switzerland, which the US president is visiting in connection with the World Economic Forum taking place there.
President Trump's initiative is controversial among diplomats, some of whom fear that the Peace Council will harm the work of the UN. The list of people invited by the White House is also controversial; dozens of world leaders include, among others: Russian leader Vladimir Putin and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. (PAP)
