Oana Țoiu responds to Donald Trump: “Romania answered the call, even if at that time it was not a NATO member”

Foreign Minister Oana Țoiu published a message on X in which she directly responds to the US President Donald Trump, after the US President criticized the European states at the World Economic Forum in Davos.

After Donald Trump asked the European leaders in his speech in Davos on Wednesday if Europe would respond to the US call in times of need, Oana Țoiu recalled the Romanian soldiers who went to Afghanistan after the terrorist attacks in the US in 2001.

“The only time in its history that NATO was tested on the promise that an attack on one is an attack on all was after 9/11”Țoiu started his post on X.

“Romania answered the call, even though it was not a NATO member at the time. We understood this as a duty, and once Article 5 was activated, Romanian soldiers were embarking for Afghanistan. So did other allies. President Trump asked us now, in Davos, if Europe would answer the call of the United States in times of need. History has already answered this question”, concluded Oana Țoiu.

Donald Trump gave an extremely tough speech in Davos, saying that the US wants “immediate negotiations” to discuss the purchase of Greenland.

“People thought I was going to use force, but I don't have to,” Trump said at the annual meeting of the World Economic Forum in Switzerland. “I know we'll be there for NATO, but I'm not sure it's mutualsaid Donald Trump.
