American President Donald Trump estimated on Wednesday, in the speech delivered at the World Economic Forum in Davos, that the discussions on a negotiated solution to the Russian-Ukrainian war “have reached a decisive point” where an agreement can be concluded and that the Russian and Ukrainian presidents, Vladimir Putin and Volodymyr Zelensky, are “stupid” if they do not take advantage of this opportunity, reports EFE, Reuters and Agerpres agencies.

Trump caused confusion after he said twice in the speech that he would meet with Zelensky in Davos on Wednesday, although the Ukrainian presidency had communicated earlier that the Ukrainian president was in Kiev. When asked by a journalist to clarify the date of the meeting, Trump corrected himself. “I think it's tomorrow” the meeting, he corrected.

Although he noted a “terrible hatred” between Putin and Zelenskiy, the American president estimated that the talks initiated by him reached a favorable point for the conclusion of a peace agreement. “I think (Volodymyr Zelensky and Vladimir Putin) have reached a point where they can meet and make a deal, and if they don't, then they're stupid,” especially since it's an opportunity to “save millions of lives,” he said.

“I'm talking to President Putin and he wants to reach an agreement, I think. I'm talking to President Zelensky and I think he wants to reach an agreement, I'll meet with him today. He's probably right now in public,” Donald Trump said, before correcting his statement about the date of the meeting with the Ukrainian president.

Trump's special envoy, Steve Witkoff, will travel to Moscow on Thursday together with the American president's son-in-law, Jared Kushner, for new talks with Putin.
