The government, after removing Romania from the Visa Waiver program: “Choosing a new president, a good time to request the resumption of the steps”

The Romanian Government announces that it will continue the diplomatic dialogue with the United States at the highest level “for the rights of Romanians to be respected”, after the US Internal Security Department has made the decision to reconsider the inclusion of our country in the Visa Waver program.
- The United States announced on Friday night the exclusion of Romania from the Visa Waiver program, which assumed that Romanians can travel without visas, for tourist or business purposes.
- The announcement was made by the US Internal Security Department and was immediately followed by reactions in Bucharest.
- The Ministry of Foreign Affairs said that he regretted the decision, stressing that Romania has met all the requirements to be included in the program.
“Romania has met all the technical conditions that the American administrations have recommended for accessing in the Visa Waiver program”-says the Bucharest Executive in a press release broadcast on Friday night, specifying that “in the context of the new American administration, we want to continue our collaboration so that the re-analysis of our country”.
The Government of Romania also considers that “it is essential for the American partners to convey all the technical details that were the basis of the temporary cancellation of the decision to enter Romania in the Visa Waiver program, so that the Romanian authorities can prepare detailed answers on each subject.”
“Romanian citizens deserve the same treatment that citizens of other allied states have visa access to the American territory and, therefore, the Government of Romania will continue the diplomatic dialogue at the highest level for the rights of Romanians to be respected,” says the Executive, specifying that “it is ready to work with the US partners”.
At the same time, the government “considers that the election of a new president of Romania, following the elections of 4 and 18 May, can be the most important time for our country to ask American partners to resume acceptance in the Visa Waiver program.”
