A polar bear that came out to people in the Taimyr Dolgano-Nenets region in the north of the Krasnoyarsk Territory has been caught. About the successful completion of a long search for an animal, which were carried out from January 5, Rosprirodnadzor reported.
According to experts, the female is about 15 years old.
“When examining the animal after immobilization (immobilization with sleeping pills), it was found that the bear was thin and had a damaged fang. This probably caused difficulties in obtaining food and led to the bear coming out to people. In such circumstances, given that the bear has already come into contact with people at least twice in search of food, it would be impossible to exclude the repeated risk of the animal coming out to people. Such situations pose a threat to both people and the animal itself. Now the bear is being transported to Norilsk for examination, after which she will be taken to the Moscow Zoo,” said Zand the head of Rosprirodnadzor Tatyana Kuznetsova.
Operation on the capture of the animal was carried out interdepartmental group with the support of specialists Moscow Zoo and the Ministry of Natural Resources and Forestry of the Krasnoyarsk Territory. A helicopter provided by Norilsk Nickel was used to transport the group and the bear.
Let us remind you that earlier the police reported that on January 5, 40 km from the village of Nosok, in a place for fishing, a polar bear attacked a family of three people aged 42, 19, 10 and injured them. The local police commissioner and local residents helped people – they went to the site on an all-terrain vehicle and snowmobiles to scare away the animal. Seeing the approaching equipment, it disappeared.
