A snowstorm caused a massive collision in the USA
The accident was caused by difficult road conditions. Snow was falling heavily over the highway, and the wind was blowing at a speed of about 65 km per hour, which reduced visibility to about 400 m. Meteorological services are still warning about difficulties for travelers in Michigan due to winter weather conditions.
“Strong winds and blinding snow create hazardous travel conditions. Driving beyond your capabilities increases the risk of serious accidents,” Michigan State Police said on Platform X.
Capt. Jake Sparks of the Ottawa County Sheriff's Office told Newsweek there were no fatalities reported and nine injured people were taken to area hospitals. It is not yet known when the highway will reopen.
“The trapped drivers were transported from the scene by bus, and about 50 percent of the cars have already been removed. We estimate that the total is definitely over 100 vehicles,” Sparks told Newsweek.
According to forecasters, difficult weather and road conditions will persist in the area of western Michigan, where the crash occurred, until Tuesday.
