The police in Zermatt in the Valais canton announced that the search using a helicopter was taken after signals from other high -mountain skiers in this area who saw abandoned skis while climbing.
As noted, the victims are identified, and the prosecutor's office initiated an investigation into the death of skiers.
Air Zermatt representatives cited by “Le Matin” reported that the helicopter crew “discovered three of five climbers on the avalanche cone about 500 meters below” the place where the ski equipment storage was located. The ambulance doctor confirmed their death.
“When the team continued to search the rock, two more people were discovered on a small snow spot, about 200 meters above” – added in the Air Zermatt statement, specifying that two skiers were already worried when the team arrived.
