Kyiv and the region cannot refuse emergency power outages. Shmygal explained why

Following the results of the regular meeting of the headquarters for liquidating the consequences of emergency situations in Kyiv and the region, Shmygal said that the situation in the region remains difficult. According to him, the authorities are working on targeted and systemic solutions for stabilization.

“For now, unfortunately, it will not be possible to abandon emergency shutdowns. The strategic task is a plan for the development of distributed generation in the city. We must reach additional capacity of more than 100 MW. This will make the capital more resistant to attacks,” the minister noted.

He also added that to speed up the installation of cogeneration units and modular boiler houses, the ministry is eliminating bureaucratic obstacles and permitting delays.

Earlier, the mayor of Kyiv, Vitaliy Klitschko, in an interview with Reuters, said that the capital, due to Russian attacks on infrastructure, was faced with the most serious energy crisis since the beginning of the war. The city with a population of 3.6 million people needs 1,700 MW of electricity, but only half of this need is available, the media wrote.

According to Klitschko, some Kiev residents remain without power supply for up to 18–20 hours a day and about 100 houses still do not have heat.
