Entering the eight minutes of overtime, Senegal had a goal disallowed. Ismaila Sarr scored with a header following a corner, but the goal was disallowed for a foul in the build-up of the phase. Four minutes later, the referee awarded Morocco a penalty after Real star Brahim Diaz was pulled down in the box. The central team made the decision after reviewing the phase on the VAR monitor.

Senegal withdrew from the field, the Moroccans missed a penalty in extra time

Immediately after the penalty kick was awarded, Senegal coach Pape Thiaw asked his players to leave the field in protest of the referee's decision, and they complied. The Senegalese were finally back on the pitch, so in the 24th minute of extra time, Brahim Diaz took it upon himself to take the penalty. He did it miserably, trying a ladder, so that the Senegalese goalkeeper caught the ball in his arms without problems.

It was 0-0 in the two extra periods of the African Cup of Nations final. And Senegal struck after only 5 minutes! Pape Gueye sparked a frenzy in Sadio Mane's camp and company after beating Bono with a superb shot from the edge of the box. The desperate assault of the Moroccans remained without result, so Senegal is the new queen of Africa.

The “Teranga Lions” thus get their revenge against the “Atlas Lions”, who at the previous edition of the African Cup of Nations had eliminated the Nations in the semi-finals, on penalties, and then defeated Mozambique in the last act.
