Where do Romanians sunbathe when it's cold at home: “In this paradise, we come out of the sea just enough to indulge ourselves”

Romanians who can take vacations during this period and want to escape the frost and snow have good options just a few hours' flight away. With significantly lower expenses than what they would have in country resorts, people can choose places where they can enjoy sea water and sunny beaches.

Frost and snow are the nightmare of Romanians who do not love winter sports at all and hardly tolerate the piercing cold. While the snow and low temperatures make life hell for some, others have found dream destinations, a few hours' flight from Romania, and now spend their time on the beaches and terraces, enjoying the sea water and the generous sun.

And for that, you don't need bank loans or tightening your belt, nor endless flights thousands of kilometers from the country. Those who do not have thousands of euros to spend on vacations far from home, in Bali, Seychelles or the Maldives, find equally welcoming beaches and an equally generous sun just a few hours' flight from Romania.

Famous Dubai has prices to suit all budgets

One of the most affordable destinations is the luxurious Dubai. On social networks, Romanians talk about the prices for any pocket that meets them there. If there are luxury hotels where a single night can cost thousands of euros and restaurants where a simple meal costs more than a family's income for several months, there are also cheap accommodation and places where you can eat much cheaper like in Bucharest or Cluj.

“Brother, I was in Dubai 2 minutes from the Burj, apartment 90m2 4 rooms all utilities – 260 per night” was one of the messages posted by a netizen on Reddit.

“I went to Dubai last year, the hotel was 300 lei. If I went to Sinaia or Poiana, I paid at least 3 times more”someone else said.

“Coffee – 12 lei, a full meal about 30. Someone tell me which decent restaurant in Romania can find something like this, and I'll go there the next day”, was another observation.

But not only the Gulf countries, where the sun shines all year round and the word cold does not exist in the vocabulary, attracts Romanians eager to taste a little summer in the middle of winter. People are also talking about other destinations where they can enjoy the sun during this period. Egypt is one of them.

The sunny and warm midwinter paradise

“I had a choice between Egypt and Madiera, but Portugal is more expensive, and whoever takes a bath there does it for Instagram. But in Egypt, for nothing, I went and took a leisurely bath” said another. “He's right.” someone reinforced.

“I'm in Egypt, it's barren here. We leave the sea just enough to indulge ourselves and it's 3 times cheaper than in Romania. Here it's paradise when you think about how cold we endure at home. In Bucharest it was -15 degrees, here it was about 27 plus. It's worth coming to taste a little summer in the middle of winter. I honestly wouldn't leave here again to see mud and shiver from the cold.”

“The land of eternal spring” attracts Romanians

Others recommend the islands of Southern Spain, and the Canary Islands would be the best option. In Tenerife, many Romanians feel at home, and some are even residents here. Others, the majority, arrive only as tourists, and some even in the winter months. In fact, it is no coincidence that Tenerife is said to be “The Realm of Eternal Spring.”

“I would say, based on my experience, that Tenerife is the best solution during this period. And the prices are a joke compared to those on our coast, in the summer season. The accommodation is much lower. And I mean prices here. The food is clearly cheaper, the sun is good, and the beach is welcoming. You can also take a leisurely bath, I stayed for 5 days and only once was it a bit colder”said a Romanian who enjoyed the sun of the Canaries.

Tenerife once, twice, three times! I was there last year in January, it was great! This year I want to surprise my girlfriend and we will be there from February 14th. She dreams of swimming among dolphins, and she will have this opportunity. It will be sunny, warm and plenty of room for bathing, but she doesn't know yet, it will be a surprise”said a lover.
