Russia has again attacked with drones the south of the Odesa region, located on the border with Romania, according to the Ukrainian authorities. In Romania, the appearance of drones close to the border almost led to the lifting of two F-16s from Fetești Air Base, and a Ro-Alert message was issued in Tulcea County.
A Facebook user posted on the social network images captured by the surveillance camera from a yard in Periprava, a Romanian town located on the Danube, on the border with Ukraine. The clip shows at least one explosion in the distance.
The Ukrainian Air Force warned overnight of a group of drones heading south of the Odesa region, where the regional Military Administration and Emergency Service later reported that there were strikes and fires at energy facilities.
According to the Ukrainian Air Force, overnight Russia attacked a total of 201 Shahed and Gerbera drones, of which 167 were intercepted and 30 hits were recorded in 15 locations.
MApN prepared to lift two F-16s, but canceled the mission
The Romanian Ministry of Defense said in a statement on Sunday morning that overnight, around 01:15, its radar surveillance systems “identified a group of aerial drones of the Russian Federation operating in Ukrainian airspace, approximately 10 km north of the border with Romania.”
According to the cited source, two fighter planes from the 86th Air Base in Fetești, “received the order to prepare the aerial monitoring mission. As a result of the disappearance of the targets from the radars, the mission was canceled after approximately 10 minutes, the aircraft remaining on the ground.”
The population of the north of Tulcea county was warned by RO-Alert message at 01:21. The state of alert ended at 01:40.
No unauthorized intrusions into the national airspace were recorded, says MApN, which specified that since the beginning of the aggression of the Russian Federation against Ukraine, more than 70 drone attacks have been recorded in the vicinity of the Romanian border.
