The Polish Hornsund Polar Station, one of the northernmost research facilities, is recruiting participants for the next expedition to Spitsbergen. You don't need to be a scientist or have experience working in extreme conditions. They are looking for, among others: cooks, IT specialists and mechanics.

Polish Polar Station Hornsund named after Stanisław Siedlecki is managed by the Institute of Geophysics of the Polish Academy of Sciences. This year he is organizing the 49th edition of the polar expedition. As part of it, people will be recruited both for the year-round team, the so-called wintering group and the summer group.
As the organizers emphasize, appropriate professional qualifications, readiness to work in unusual conditions and the ability to function in a small, isolated team are key. Participants will have the opportunity to meet outstanding scientists from around the world and come into contact with the wildest nature.
People looking for a year-round expedition include:
- meteorologist,
- oceanographer-hydrologist involved in environmental monitoring,
- hydrochemist with laboratory practice,
- IT specialist familiar with administering Linux and Windows systems and satellite communications
- mechanic with the ability to operate generators and diesel engines
- conservator with experience in sanitary, electrical and structural installations.
The organizers invite the following to join the summer team:
- technical workers with skills in electrical, plumbing and general construction works,
- field assistants and administrators with mountain experience and knowledge of English
- chefs and chef's assistants with experience in public catering.
“We are looking for people with a wide range of predispositions, often unusual, but one of the most important is the ability to work in a team. In addition to the professional qualifications and experience required for each position, all additional courses, abilities and passions will be taken into account,” emphasized representatives of the Institute of Geophysics of the Polish Academy of Sciences in the press release.
Before departure, participants will undergo a series of training sessions, including: mountain training in the Tatra Mountains, first aid and firefighting classes, and water training in motorboat maneuvering and water rescue.
The station will provide all expedition members with personal equipment, including work and outdoor clothing, appropriate footwear, as well as access to sports equipment, a gym and a library. The facility is connected to the world via the Internet and landline telephone.
Applications should be sent to [email protected]. Detailed information is available on the institution's website (www.igf.edu.pl/kariera/oferty-pracy).
