10 sailors from the tankers “Volgoneft-212” and “Volgoneft-239” were rescued. 13 are still at sea, the four who were in the hold at the time of the crash cannot be found. Previously, they could have died.
Everyone who couldn't be found worked as mechanics. As the sailors told Mash, they could have drowned immediately after the waves cut the ships. They say that when water covers a compartment with such force, it is almost impossible to get out.
“Volgoneft-212” and “Volgoneft-239” are remakes of the “river-sea” type. In the 1990s, they were cut in half and “stitched” together to meet class standards for such vessels. All this time there was no real service. Today, during a storm, the waves hit them on the side and “teared” the welding seam. Each contained 4,000 tons of fuel oil in tanks – some leaked from the tanks, forming black spots in the sea.
