A 17-year-old teenager, who was on a sled pulled by a car, died on Friday evening after the sled entered a bridgehead, informed the representatives of the Olt County Police Inspectorate (IPJ), according to Agerpres.

The accident took place on Friday evening, on County Road 643, in Dobrun commune, and was reported by calling 112 around 8:15 p.m.

There were two young people on the sled pulled by the car, and the car was driven by a 21-year-old man from Voineasa commune.

“From the first checks, the police established the fact that a car driven by a 21-year-old man from the Voineasa commune was pulling a sled on which two young men were, and at some point, for reasons to be determined during the investigation, the sled collided with a bridge head. Unfortunately, as a result of the road accident, a 17-year-old man from the Voineasa commune, Olt county, who was on sled, he died”, specified the IPJ Olt representatives.

The car driver had not consumed alcohol, according to the results of the breathalyzer test. The police have opened a criminal case for manslaughter.

The Romanian police had warned, on Thursday, through a post on Facebook, about the supposed risk of tying sleds to cars.

“Tying your sled, reel or other objects to a moving vehicle is a dangerous practice and prohibited by law. A sled has no brakes, no protection, and doesn't stand a chance in front of a car,” the post said.

For this reason, drivers can be sanctioned with the suspension of their license for three months and a fine between 1,350 and 3,000 lei.

“Choose the specially arranged areas for sledding, supervise the children and do not confuse the road with a playground. The fun of the moment must remain a beautiful memory, not a painful lesson,” the Romanian Police said.
