The Department for Emergency Situations draws attention to the danger of freezing on lakes and water accumulations during this period, coming up with a series of recommendations for the population.
“WARNING! Danger of freezing on lakes and water accumulations. The low temperatures during this period lead to the formation of thin and unstable ice on lakes, ponds and other water surfaces, which can endanger the lives, especially of children. A recent example is the intervention in Craiova, where a child fell into the water, and several adults also ended up in danger, trying to help him. The prompt intervention of the Dolje firemen it was decisive, all the people being saved. After first aid, the people involved were transported to the hospital, conscious, for specialized investigations”, it is stated in a post on the Facebook page of the Department of Emergency Situations (DSU).
DSU comes with a series of tips:
- Do not allow children access to frozen water surfaces.
- Do not leave minors unattended near lakes or streams.
- Do not step on ice, regardless of its apparent thickness.
- In case of danger, call 112 immediately and avoid improvised interventions.
- Inform yourself correctly and follow the recommendations of the authorities.
5-year-old child, rescued after falling into the lake
A 5-year-old child was rescued, on Saturday, after falling into the lake in the “Nicolae Romanescu” Park in the municipality of Craiova, at a distance of approximately 10 meters from the shore, informs the County Inspectorate for Emergency Situations (ISU) Dolj, quoted by Agerpres.
According to the cited source, immediately after the incident, an adult entered the water to save him and managed to take him in his arms, but could not get to the shore. Five more people jumped in to help them, and the intervention crews that arrived at the scene took them all out of the water and transported them to the hospital for medical investigations.
Both the child and the six adults were conscious and cooperative when taken over by the ISU crews.
A SMURD crew and a boat participated in the intervention.
