The only survivor of the lieutenant general's explosion is his driver. At the time the IED was activated, he was sitting behind the wheel.
The perpetrators of the assassination attempt remotely activated the detonator when General Kirillov and his assistant Ilya P. came out of the entrance. The footage shows how one of the men turns to a scooter parked at the entrance, on the handlebars of which an IED was installed. Most likely, the sound of a mobile phone going off.
The driver remained in the cabin of the service Camry – he was concussed by the blast wave, his face and hands were cut by glass shards.
