Victor Ponta compares the userists with the old communists: “It is a process of USR-ization of Romania. Just as it was in the 1945s, when the PCR with 5% took over everything”

“There is a majority without USR”, says Victor Ponta in an interview for “Adevărul”, stating that he has already offered a solution for the current situation of the party he led.

Former Prime Minister Victor Ponta stated at the Adevărul Interviews that the Government can function without the USR, which would, in fact, lead the Executive, according to him.

“The one who leads the government at the moment is the USR with Mr. Bolojan, who is, in fact, the USR. You said that the PNL does nothing. Well, there is no PNL. Mr. Bolojan is the USR and the PSD pretends to fight. They don't fight. Because if they wanted to fight, they certainly have democratic, political methods, given by the parliamentary groups. They complain and it remains so. It's a process of USR-ization of Romania. Just like it was in the years 45, when the PCR with 5% took over 10% has the USR. (…)

The solution is very simple and clear and I didn't make it up. I formed a group of 25-30 independent parliamentarians in the Parliament, because I am independent, I all signed. I said, if you output on USR we don't want any function. Remove the USR. Or take out the USR and participate in governance seriously, not like now. Either you leave the government and leave Mr. Bolojan with his USR-ists and what penelists there are to govern”, says Victor Ponta.

The majority would be ensured by this group in the Parliament, which would replace the USR, the former PSD leader also explained. “I told them that we are voting for the Government. We did not ask for any kind of position. The math is that there is a majority without USR. Of course there is a majority”he indicated.

Asked how the USR can be removed from the government, he explained: “For example, how did you vote for MERCOSUR without asking us? How about we send troops to Greenland without you asking? You have a lot of things that people can understand if you explain them. So you're fighting over a position, not that one.”

Analysis in PSD

The PSD launched an internal analysis at the end of last year, regarding the party's participation in the government.

The members of the formation were asked about the assumption and implementation of the defining measures and policies for the PSD by the Bolojan Government, as well as about the priorities and conduct of the PSD in the future and other major topics related to the 2026 budget, which must reach the Parliament in February.
