Due to the approach of severe frosts in Krasnoyarsk and the region, the regional operator ROSTtech is taking all necessary measures to ensure the operation of the equipment, the company’s press service said.

Operation of special equipment is provided mainly up to −30 °C and lowering the temperature imposes certain difficulties. According to experts, the most vulnerable spot in a car is the hydraulic system.

“Unlike other special equipment, in which the hydraulics work constantly, in a garbage truck it works in cycles of 10-15 minutes: tipping the tank, pressing, returning the tank. The garbage truck then moves to the next point, at which time the system turns off. It is precisely because of cyclic operation that the oil does not have time to warm up very much. In severe frost, while the car is traveling to the next point, all working fluids may freeze and the hydraulics will fail,” experts explain.

In such cases, a replacement vehicle will take the route. The company spoke about measures to prepare for the coming frosts.

“We have prepared reserve equipment, and duty drivers have already been assigned. The technology uses special fluids to operate at extremely low temperatures. In order to minimize equipment breakdowns, the crews will work with heating in the boxes,” the ROSTtech press service said.

According to forecasters, frosts will continue until the middle of next week. In remote settlements the air temperature will drop below – up to −45 °C. The company reports that in case of persistent frost, more time may be required for shipment, and temporary adjustments for the shipment of MSW are possible.
