The design contract for the new multipurpose hall in Bucharest was stopped because of the skydiving tower, which is out of use and degraded. The situation remains uncertain and many questions remain unanswered. And the main problem is finding a location where it can be erected.
As early as August 2025at GSP Live, Stelian Bujduveanu, then the acting general mayor of Bucharest, announced that the location chosen in 2017, the land of the parachuting tower near the National Arena, is no longer an option. A possible location remains the land it is on Radio House, the giant building in the center of Bucharest that is currently in ruins. But many other logistical, administrative and technical problems are still an obstacle for the new multipurpose project.
Bucharest City Hall explained what is the status of the project for the new hall in the Capital now, at the beginning of 2026, which is not in an execution phase, and all the initial procedures have been suspendedlooking for a suitable location. They are only promises and illusions, without any concrete plan.
How does PMB explain the problems encountered with the new multipurpose center in Bucharest
Even if the option of locating the multipurpose hall within the “Lia Manoliu” Sports Complex seemed no longer feasible, Bucharest City Hall did not lose hope of building the new hall on the originally established land.
“Until this moment, a clear alternative location has not been established, the location where the skydiving tower is located remains the main option. The final location has not yet been established,” according to golazo.ro, according to the response provided by PMB.

“Considering the fact that, on the land proposed for the construction of the Multifunctional Hall, there is a building with the destination of a skydiving tower, out of use and in an advanced state of degradation, HCGMB No. 462/26.08.2019 was adopted regarding the transfer from the public domain of the state and from the administration of the Ministry of Transport – the Aeroclub of Romania, to the public domain of the Municipality of Bucharest and the administration of the CGMB, of the construction called “Tower of Parachuting», located in the Lia Manoliu Sports Complex.
Since the decision was not issued by the Government, the order to suspend the design and execution contract related to the investment objective was issued”, PMB also transmitted.
PMB does not provide any precise term
The City Hall of the Capital could not provide any financial plan regarding the new multi-purpose facility or any calendar of the works.
“Until the finalization of the SF and the launch of the award procedure, we cannot communicate an estimated value of the investment. We will communicate the calendar when the project is launched.
The technical details will be communicated to the general public at the time of finalization of the design theme and the Feasibility Study. Multiple advantages known to everyone, from the significant increase in the number of seats, to the variety of events that will be able to be organized in a modern, safe and efficient setting”, PMB said.
