Fresh herbs and vegetables from the kitchen windowsill: five plants for a real harvest without a garden bed or garden

Sometimes you really want to pick something of your own for a salad, fresh from the garden, but you won’t be able to get to the dacha soon. It turns out that this simple thrill is easy to create right in the kitchen – there is nothing complicated, but a whole lot of joy and benefits.

Onion in a glass

A classic that always works. It is enough to take an onion, preferably one that has already begun to sprout, put it in a jar of water, and after a few days you can cut the green feathers into a salad. All you need is water.

Basil from the windowsill

Smells like real summer. It grows easily from seeds: sow in a pot, cover with film for warmth, and wait for germination. The main thing is not to forget to water and pinch the crown so that the bush is fluffy. A couple of plucked leaves can transform the most ordinary soup.

Hot pepper “Ogonyok”

For those who like it hot. A small bush strewn with bright pods. It looks fun, and in food, one peppercorn changes the taste of the entire dish. The plant loves the sun, but it is not recommended to flood it.

Cherry tomatoes (small)

Yes, they can also be grown on a window. You will need special low-growing varieties (you should look for the note “for the balcony” on the package), a large pot and a lot of sun. You'll have to wait a little and maybe tie it up.

Pick-and-eat salad

Fast and unpretentious. It is enough to sow the seeds thickly in a wide container. After a couple of weeks, you can already cut off the first tender leaves. With regular watering, the greenery will grow back.
