The military unit, built according to the standards of the European Union, is built in Băcioi commune in the municipality of Chisinau. The Minister of Defense, Anatolie Nosatîi, states that almost half of the works have already been completed. Construction began in 2024.
“Currently, there are 61 objectives under construction, many of which are not visible, such as water, sewage, electricity, access, control and lighting networks. It is a complex project, which will provide much better conditions for the life and work of military and civilians. I want mothers and grandmothers to trust us, that we offer very good conditions to young people who do their service in the interest of the country”, added the Moldovan minister.
Works according to plan
The official added that the first soldiers would be transferred to the new facility in 2027, even if the work will continue.
“We propose that, by the end of 2027, we will be able to transfer the military from the units currently in the city of Chisinau in this new unit. It all depends on how the contractors will fulfill their obligations. I want to mention that, until this moment, all the works are carried out according to the approved plan, and all the sums from the state budget are invested on the basis of this plan, without any delays in execution”, detailed the head of the Ministry of Defense.
Investing in peace
The president of the Republic of Moldova, Maia Sandu, the supreme commander of the army, made a documentary visit to the construction site of the new military unit. It evaluated the progress of the works and discussed with the representatives of the Ministry of Defense about the execution stages of the project, compliance with international standards and the impact on national security.
“For many years we have been talking about the precarious conditions in which the Moldovan military live and train. Finally things are changing for the better. This is what the construction site of the new military unit in Băcioi looks like. The camp will offer modern accommodation and training conditions, according to the best international practices. Investments in defense are investments in peace, in stability and in the confidence that, even in a complicated world, we can take care of each other and honorably do our duty to the country'', mentioned the leader from Chisinau.
The new facility will be the first military camp of its kind built in the neighboring country since its independence.
