Rospotrebnadzor gave recommendations to residents of the Krasnoyarsk Territory on how to choose the right cereals.
First of all, experts advise inspecting the packaging. It must be intact, without damage.
You also need to pay attention to the color of the cereal:
- Pearl barley should be white or yellowish. The presence of lumpy compounds inside indicates that it was stored in a room with high humidity and improper temperature.
- Bright yellow millet will produce a crumbly, airy porridge, while light yellow millet will produce a more viscous porridge.
- Semolina should be light – creamy or yellowish, depending on the type of wheat from which it is made. If the color is dark, most likely there are impurities characteristic of technical and feed grades – such a product is not worth taking.
- Buckwheat should ideally be light brown. Grains that are too dark indicate that they were subjected to longer heat treatment.
- Spelled grain should be amber in color.
- Depending on the degree of grinding, bulgur can be light golden or beige.
After purchasing a house from industrial packaging, it is better to pour the cereal into a jar and indicate its expiration date.
