The Mayor of Krakow, Aleksander Miszalski, expressed his satisfaction with the announcement of government support, emphasizing that the metro is the city's most important investment. According to him, this project is a response to the growing transport needs of the metropolis.

The Krakow authorities plan to build two metro lines with a total length of 29 kilometers and 29 stations.
The Krakow metro route will start in the area of ul. Ujastek in Nowa Huta, then it will lead through al. Bora-Komorowskiego, Młyńskie roundabout and Mogilskie roundabout, crossing the historic city center. Next, the line will run along Aleje Trzech Wieszczów towards Łagiewniki, where it will split into two strands.
The first one (M1) will head towards Ruczaj, the Jagiellonian University Campus, Kliny and end at the railway station in Opatkowice. The second one (M2) will serve the area of sanctuaries in Łagiewniki and reach Kurdwanów.

According to city plans, the construction of the metro will shorten the travel time between the served districts by up to half. It is estimated that approximately 280,000 people will use the metro every day. passengers.
The city authorities would like construction to start in 2030 and the first line to be ready in 2035. The preliminary estimated cost of metro construction is PLN 13-15 billion.

Criticism of current S7 variants
During his visit to Krakow, the Deputy Prime Minister also referred to the planned S7 route, which is to connect the southern bypass of Krakow with a new section beyond Myślenice. Kosiniak-Kamysz expressed a critical stance towards the current six route variants, supporting the objections of the city and residents.
– The voice of the local government and local communities must be taken into account – said the minister, adding that none of the current projects fully meets the expectations.

The government plans to start work on new variants of the route, which will take into account both the city's needs and the residents' demands. The current Zakopane road, which the new route would relieve, is, according to road engineers, overloaded with local and national traffic. Meanwhile, residents of southern Krakow and surrounding towns fear that the construction of the S7 route will worsen their quality of life, increase noise and have a negative impact on the environment.
