Porting to a statement of the National Directorate for Cyber ​​Security (DNSC), immediately after the presidential elections, social networks have been filled with video messages in which notorious people in Romania, such as Nicuşor Dan or Ilie Bolojan, seem to be a “investment opportunities”. Specialists warn that this is a new SCAM campaign, which uses videos with Deepfake.

“(…) Immediately after the elections I noticed a fairly aggressive return on the social media platforms of false investments, those SCAMs that Meta entitled Inspired celebits, because they use clips made with Deepake, in which people with notoriety that seem to be confirmed by these” investment opportunities “as a program that can enrich you as a day. President Nicușor Dan, as well as with the former interim president Ilie Bolojan such initiatives on the meta platforms, but also on YouTube (Google), etc. ”, transmits DNSC, in a statement quoted by Agerpres.

According to the quoted source, one of the online fraud attempts is related to false investments, in which hackers use the image of people with notoriety in Romania, and video clips are usually spread by posts or advertisements on social media platforms.

“A false investment platform, created by criminals from the online environment in order to steal money from Credul users, uses Deepfake technology to generate clips with a modified message. (…) Offenders are used by some public videos with politicians in Romania (the president, the prime minister, etc.), whose initial message is later altered. Deepfake, people in the video seem to promote an investment program that would bring potential big profits through this method. Social engineering with Deepfake technology, abusively using the image of real people with popularity for the general public in Romania ”, DNSC transmitted, on the official Facebook, LinkedIn and Instagram pages of the institution.

Cyber ​​security specialists have made public a few clues that can help us identify a video material made with Deepfake technology:

– The lip movement is not synchronized with the voice

– Facial expressions are rigid or unnatural

– The background looks artificial or animated

– Cchi that do not blink naturally or “empty” looks.
