A Zelenogorsk man set fire to a sold car to avoid repaying the debt (video)

In the Krasnoyarsk Territory, police caught a car arsonist in Zelenogorsk in hot pursuit.

The press service of the regional department of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Russian Federation said that a 38-year-old resident of the closed city came to the duty station with a statement about the arson of a car. The man estimated the damage caused at about 160 thousand rubles.

The police found out that the Zelenogorsk resident bought the Toyota in the fall. The car was faulty, so it was located in the area of ​​​​one of the car service centers. Law enforcement officers managed to find out the involvement of the former owner of the car in the crime.

“OVD officers found out that the 35-year-old attacker, experiencing financial difficulties, sold the car for debts to his friend, who resold the car to the current owner. However, later another creditor demanded that the man repay the debt and offered to sell the foreign car to pay off. Not wanting to admit that the car had already been sold, the man decided to “resolve the issue” in a radical way,” the press service said.

The man bought gasoline, came to the service area, where he first broke the window of a foreign car with a stone, doused the interior with flammable liquid and set it on fire. He also doused a nearby KIA with gasoline. Fortunately, the second car did not catch fire, only the paintwork was damaged.

The Investigative Department of the Russian Ministry of Internal Affairs for the ZATO Zelenogorsk opened a criminal case against the suspect under Part 2 of Art. 167 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation “Deliberate destruction of someone else’s property.” The sanction of the article provides for punishment in the form of imprisonment for a term of up to five years. The man was given a preventive measure in the form of a written undertaking not to leave the place.
