The “prophecy” with which Patapievici shocked in 2018: “Romania must arm itself strongly and intelligently like Israel”

“What does Romania have to do?” is the question answered by the writer Horia-Roman Patapievici at an event that took place almost a decade ago. One of his answers that shocked at the time is now proving prophetic: “Romania must strongly arm itself.”

A speech by the writer Horia-Roman Patapievici from 2018, which shocked public opinion at the time, turns out to be topical.

“For us, the presence in the European Union and in NATO is vital. And now I will say the heresy with which I will shock you. My opinion is that Romania must arm itself strongly. Namely – arm itself intelligently, just as the State of Israel arms itself intelligently”claimed, eight years ago, the well-known intellectual.

Patapievici's statements were shared on the FB account of the Getica Struggle Group with the following comment: “”Prophet”? No, just a man with a vision and an extraordinary power of analysis. Congratulations, dear Mr. Patapievici. It would be good if we listened and took more seriously the signs and voices that warn us in advance. We know someone who warned as early as 2019 about an imminent conflict of Europe with Russia and said that he did not trust the USA”.

“Getica” is a pro-Ukraine Romanian volunteer battalion (Romanian Battlegroup “Getica”), made up of Romanian and Moldovan citizens who enlisted to support Ukraine in the conflict with Russia. The group is part of the International Legion for the Defense of Ukraine and operates as a light infantry unit.

Horia-Roman Patapievici explained in 2018 what Romania has to do

The writer Horia-Roman Patapievici, invited to a leadership event in the summer of 2018, claimed:

What does Romania have to do? To understand that in a world that evolves according to the logic of continent-states – America is a continent-state, China is a continent-state, India is a continent-state, Russia is a continent-state, Brazil, although it does not exhaust South America, is a continent-state, therefore, in a world where geopolitics is made by a continent-state, we must affiliate ourselves with the continent to which we belong, according to the pashoptist generation that Westernized Romania. And this is now the European Union“, said Patapievici, quoted by Agerpress.

He stressed that for Romania both the presence in the European Union and in NATO is vital.

“For us, the presence in the European Union and in NATO is vital. And now I will say the heresy with which I will shock you. My opinion is that Romania must arm itself strongly. Namely – to arm itself intelligently, just as the State of Israel is arming itself intelligently. We must have strong, national secret services animated by pashoptism. I would call them: CA Rosetti Division, Titu Maiorescu Division, so that they remember where they come from, that they are not communists. We must have a flexible army, just as Israel has a flexible army. Let us not count on someone to fight in our place, when the time comes for this to happen, and let us not wail in the form of 'Woe is me! You can not! There are nuclear weapons! Nothing can be done!' and let's put the palm in our ass. It is the most wrong formula, remembering the year 1940, which is the year of our dishonor“, explained Patapievici.

“So, characters, capitalism and a flexible army. That's what I wish for you, sweet Romania”

According to him, “a realistic national policy can only be based on the cultural acceptance of capitalism”.

“Capitalism is a word of reproach today, because the public opinion is made by progressives, who are anti-capitalists. (…) The general common opinion is very reluctant towards capitalism. It is no longer a descriptive word, it is a negative word. From our point of view, as a Romanian state, we must understand that capitalism (…) is a national policy. What is capitalism? It is the social order of private property and legal guarantees that guarantee freedom of exchange and, once again, private property in all its forms. It is a social order, which exists through and because there is a legal structure that guarantees individual property and the freedom of exchange. For Romania, there is no alternative to an extraordinarily profitable capitalism. And we are good at that So: characters, capitalism and a flexible army. That's what I wish for you, sweet Romania“, concluded the writer.
