Eight people, rescued after being stuck by snow in Hunedoara county: “We are evacuating them safely!”

A group of seven adults and one child was safely evacuated after being isolated in a hard-to-reach area in Hunedoara county, following heavy snowfall.
Eight people, seven adults and one minor, went through difficult moments after being stuck in the town of Ticera, Bulzeștii de Sus commune, Hunedoara county, on the border with Alba county. The alarm was given by a call to 112, and the authorities intervened urgently.
The group was spending the holidays at a holiday home in Ticera, but the massive snows made it impossible for them to return home, in Bihor county. The access road to the locality is undeveloped and can only be traveled by off-road vehicles, and the deposited snow has completely blocked the route, reaching more than 80 centimeters in some places.
“There are 8 people and we will evacuate them safely!“, the rescuers said when the intervention was launched.
Difficult intervention, at -13 degrees
“The Hunedoara County Gendarmerie Inspectorate established an intervention team consisting of 3 Hunedoara gendarmes, a crew of 2 gendarmes from IJJ Alba and a Salvamont crew. At temperatures of -13 degrees Celsius, the team went to the scene with special means of intervention (4×4 car and a tracked vehicle) to provide support to stranded peoplee”, the press release states.
Getting to the group wasn't easy at all. For more than five hours, gendarmes and mountain rescuers battled the snow and difficult terrain to reach the stranded people.
Fortunately, none of the people needed medical attention. “The minor and his mother were transported by crawler together with a worker from Salvamont, and the other members of the group started the evacuation on foot, accompanied by a gendarme from IJJ Hunedoara“, said the rescuers. After taking the mother and child to safety, the rescuer from Salvamont returned and took the others, one by one.
Mission completed successfully
The operation ended successfully, all eight people being driven safely to the area of Dealul Crișului, where they found their personal cars.
The intervention of the authorities prevented a situation that could have become dangerous, given the extreme weather conditions and the complete isolation of the area.
