The Turkish actor Can Yaman, known from numerous telenovelas, was detained in Istanbul on Saturday, along with six other people, for alleged drug possession, reports the EFE agency, citing the Turkish publication Hürriyet.
Can Yaman, well-known actress Selen Görgüzel and five other people were detained during a police raid on various nightclubs in Istanbul as part of an anti-drug operation. All those detained were taken to a police station, according to Hürriyet, writes Agerpres.
The operation is part of a wave of raids and arrests in recent weeks, which have led to the detention or summons to police stations of dozens of artists, social media stars, journalists, businessmen and sports figures.
Detained persons have hair, blood or urine samples taken during investigations for alleged drug use.
Although official reports do not specify which type of drug is the main target of the campaign, Turkish media say it is aimed at combating cocaine use.
According to Hürriyet, the Prosecutor's Office had not issued an arrest warrant for Can Yaman in these anti-drug operations, but during Saturday morning raids in nightclubs, officers allegedly found drugs in his possession, and the actor was later arrested.
Can Yaman, famous for internationally successful telenovelas such as “Daydreamer”, “Sandokan”, “The Turk” and “Viola come il mare”, is also the star of the Spanish series “The Butterfly Labyrinth”, which is currently in the production phase, notes EFE.
