Mircea Lucescu's diagnosis
The former coach of the national team suffered an acute myocardial infarction on Friday morning, when he was to be discharged from the University Hospital. “He was taken by emergency (no – taken by emergency from the ward and taken to the intervention room) and promptly benefited from the necessary medical and therapeutic interventions, according to the protocols in force”, announced the health unit.
He underwent a primary angioplasty, medical sources said, according to News.ro.
Primary angioplasty is an emergency interventional cardiology procedure to treat myocardial infarction (heart attack) by immediately unblocking the responsible coronary artery. It is the preferred revascularization method for restoring blood flow to the heart as quickly as possible without resorting to major heart surgery.
Almost a week ago, Mircea Lucescu was urgently transported and admitted to the University Hospital, after suffering a ventricular tachycardia during training before the match with Slovakia (0-2), on Tuesday. He was due to be discharged on Friday.
