Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky announced that Kiev's chief negotiator, Rustem Umerov, had held talks with US officials on Saturday, as the sides seek to reach a consensus on the framework for ending the war launched by Russia in February 2022, Reuters reports.
“We continue to communicate with the American side practically daily,” Zelenskiy wrote on Telegram after Umerov's talk with American officials.
The leader of Ukraine also mentioned the contact with the American side in a post on Facebook, stating that he is waiting for “a full report from the negotiating team.”
“This is our strategic task – dialogue with America must be 100% constructive. Ukraine has never been and will never be an obstacle for diplomacy,” Volodymyr Zelensky said.
Negotiations in Paris
On Thursday, Zelensky stated that “the bilateral document on security guarantees for Ukraine is essentially ready to be finalized at the highest level with the President of the United States.”
He said that during the negotiations held in France this week, complex aspects of the basic framework were addressed and that the Ukrainian side presented possible options for finalizing the document.
“We understand that the American side will have contact with Russia and we are waiting for feedback,” the Ukrainian president also said, quoted by Ukrinform.
“Concrete results” were achieved in Paris, President Volodymyr Zelenskiy's top adviser said on Wednesday, during the second day of talks attended by both European and American officials.
“Not all information can be made public, but there are already concrete results, our work continues,” Kirilo Budanov, appointed last week as Zelenskiy's chief of staff after long running Ukraine's military intelligence service, wrote on Telegram.
