Italy was hit by a wave of intense cold on Thursday, after being affected by violent gusts, heavy snowfall and torrential rains in the last few days, writes Agerpres quoting ANSA.
The Veneto region was particularly affected, with negative temperatures throughout its territory, from the mountains to the lowlands.
The mercury in the thermometers dropped to minus 23.1 degrees Celsius at an altitude of 1,310 meters, in the Marcesina area of Vicenza province, while minus 21.9 degrees Celsius were recorded on the top of Mount Marmolada.
The Molise region was also particularly affected, despite the return of the sun after overnight snowfall, with negative temperatures and schools closed in dozens of localities, including the regional capital Campobasso.
The first snowfall this year fell on Vesuvius, notes ANSA.
