Competition with the whole world

– Applying for the Games is not easy, because it is a competition with the whole world, but we hope that in 2028, when the decision will be made, Poland will absolutely be taken into account as a country that is ready to hold the Games in 2040. Today we are working on the concept and we want to dedicate this event to the entire country – emphasized the Deputy Minister of Sport and Tourism.

Borys noted that the largest sports event in the world it is also intended to be an opportunity for smaller towns.

– There will be not only six or seven co-organizing cities, but also from 150 to 200 places that can become residence and training centers. Often, a town that has an athletics stadium and a swimming pool can become a place where entire teams practice for two months as part of acclimatization. This was the case, for example, in France. It is also worth emphasizing that in this country, after the Games, three million people started actively practicing sports, he added.

Polish sport is to be powered by two great engines

The deputy head of the ministry revealed that Polish sport will be powered by two great engines. First it is a strategy and movement transition and training system.

– Each sports association will be obliged to develop a 10-year strategy that will show where the world has gone and in what elements we have fallen behind when it comes to the training system – he explained.

Second motor is to prepare for the Olympic Games in 2040.

– We are the largest and strongest country in Central and Eastern Europe. No country from this region organized the summer games. We are the capital of the Slavs and the capital of this part of Europe and the 20th economy in the world. And such a moment came. When we talked about Euro 2012, everyone asked if we were ready. And it worked. Poland has become a construction site and has moved to an even higher level, he noted.

At the Olympic Games in Paris, the Polish national team won 10 medals, which, according to the deputy minister, is far too modest. Poland can afford to win 30-40 medals at this event.

We want to benefit from the experience of France and Slovenia

He does not hide the fact that the ministry intends to follow its own path, but at the same time take advantage of the experience of France and Slovenia, which has a population of just over two million people and is a global phenomenon.

– It happens because this small country has a system. The key is that their children are active from the age of three. They invest in general development and then dedicate talents to various disciplines. We, however, have a gap between the ages of three and ten. In turn, France changed the system of professional sports, focused on very professional centers and won 64 Olympic medals – he summed up. (PAP)
