The cause of death of the 25-year-old, hospitalized with a femur fracture at the Buzău County Hospital. What does the necropsy show?

The necropsy was completed in the case of the 25-year-old who died in the Orthopedics Department of the Buzau County Emergency Hospital, where he was admitted, while waiting for a femur surgery. The medico-legal conclusions show a pulmonary thromboembolism as the cause of death, according to News.ro

The necropsy was performed at the request of the family, in the presence of a party expert, as a precautionary measure, to clarify the circumstances of Gabriel Bumbăcea's death and to eliminate possible suspicions related to possible medical errors.

The cause of death is, according to the medico-legal conclusions, a pulmonary thromboembolism, a severe complication that can occur in the case of immobilized patients. More precisely, it is a blood clot that has formed and migrated, causing a hemorrhage and blocking the pulmonary arteries.

Gabriel was immobilized following a femur fracture suffered in a road accident on January 2.

Medical sources point out that pulmonary thromboembolism is a known risk in such situations, and during the hospitalization, the patient would have been administered anticoagulant treatment, precisely to prevent the occurrence of such a complication, notes the quoted source.

The patient's condition should have been kept under control by this treatment until Monday morning, when the surgery for the femur fracture was scheduled. Gabriel died in the meantime.

The management of the Buzău County Emergency Hospital is to come up with clarifications about the reasons why the operation was not performed earlier.

Medical sources say that the reason for postponing the intervention would have been the lack of the rod needed to stabilize the fracture, but this information was not officially confirmed by the representatives of SJU Buzău, according to News.ro.

The young man's family is waiting for further clarification on how the medical situation was managed before the death.

We remind you that Gabriel's death generated a wave of reactions in the public space and protests in the hospital courtyard, with residents accusing the unit's doctors of incompetence.

The young man was injured on Friday in a road accident in the town of Vernești. He was the right-hand passenger in a speeding car driven by a friend in his 20s. In an attempt to avoid the Police, the driver entered the opposite direction and hit another vehicle head-on, in which were two husbands from Brașov.

Gabriel remained hospitalized for four days for an operation scheduled for Monday morning, but a few hours before the intervention, she died.

What Gabriel's girlfriend says

The young man's girlfriend, Denisa, narrated the last moments: “On Friday, after the accident, he told me he was fine and wanted to go home. I advised him to stay. I was told that he only has a femur fracture and that there are no grounds for a transfer to Bucharest. I stayed with him at UPU until he was transferred to orthopedics. He was going to stay for 10 days and do the operation, then the recovery. On Monday morning, when I came to the hospital, I was told that he would not go into surgery, that his pulse was high. I found him almost dead, no relation to what I had left on Friday“, the young woman remembers.

In an emotional message on her Facebook page, Denisa criticized the hospital's involvement:

“God or maybe the medical incompetence and arrogance of the Buzău County Hospital decided a different fate for us. You tore my soul while the “heroes” of the hospitals were having fun with us… I felt you leaving my side and I shouted out loud, maybe someone can hear me. But too late. I kissed you on the forehead and made you promise me that you're strong and you won't leave me. But you had no more strength“.
