“Dream Army”, closer to realization. Donald Trump proposes record US defense budget of $1.5 trillion for 2027

The US defense budget for 2027 should reach $1.5 trillion, up from $1 trillion previously, which would represent an increase of about 50 percent, US President Donald Trump said on Wednesday.

“After long and difficult negotiations with senators, elected officials, cabinet members and other policymakers, we have determined that, for the good of our country, especially during this very turbulent and dangerous time, our military budget for 2027 should be $1.5 trillion, not $1 trillion,” wrote Donald Trump on his Truth Social network.
The White House leader argued that the budget increase will allow the United States “to build the dream army” and to strengthen its national security.
“This will allow us to build the dream army we have long aspired to, and most importantly, one that will keep us safe no matter who the enemy is.” the US president added.
Donald Trump has pointed out that this significant increase in military spending is made possible by revenue from tariffs imposed widely on the United States' trading partners since he returned to power a year ago.
The United States already has the largest military expenditures in the world, according to AFP and Agerpres. For the year 2026, the US Congress has approved a defense budget of approximately 900 billion dollars.
The US president's announcement comes in the context in which NATO member countries agreed last year to increase their defense spending to 5% of GDP by 2035, under pressure from Washington.
